Pine Ridge Community Garden

Overview
The Pine Ridge Community Garden began by Rick Miller, a biologist at Southeastern Louisiana University with help from David Burley, an environmental sociologist at SLU, and Cooper Ricks of Hammond Weed and Seed. Hammond Weed and Seed is the primary sponsor. Through Weed and Seed the city of Hammond donated the land and has helped tremendously.
The garden is located in a working class/low income neighborhood at the corner of Magazine and Sun Lane. As of 2010, the garden is just getting started with a planned opening day on March 13, where residents of District 1 can obtain a plot. People are encouraged to grow anything they like with education on how to grow sustainably and organically.
