Homebuilder Keith Kornell of Tech Mark Inc. and Dovetail Solar & Wind partnered up to install a photovoltaic system on a Model Home in Chardon that was featured in the Business Section of the Plain Dealer in June 2008. The home is built with energy efficiency in mind, and includes densely packed cellulose insulation in the walls and attic, Energy Star rated windows, doors, appliances and furnaces. The home also utilizes a high-efficiency gas furnace and on-demand tankless gas water heater. These energy efficient measures combined with the Uni-Solar 2.7 PV array and 48-volt back-up battery bank will give the homeowner electric bills around half those in other comparable homes in the neighborhood, and provide power to critical loads when the grid goes down.
