Windfall Farms

Overview
SPECTRUM: Middle-Down
SERVICE IDEA: Market
CATEGORY: Food, Socializing
DESCRIPTION: If the aim in farming for the 20th century is to grow as much unhealthy, high calorie food as possible, then the innovation would be to grow a diverse variety of healthy food and grow it in a way that is ecologically sustainable. The farm supports its labor- people make a living wage working for the farm, a practice that is not seen all around the country. Their products go directly to the customer, whereas with other producers you don’t know where the products came from, leading to a high rate of cancer. According to Mr. Wersan, “The aim of the capitalist system is to get bigger, but our farm has only grown a little amount and our aim is not to do industrial agriculture because that would mean loss in terms of quality. So this could be an innovation.” Innovation can also be seen in terms of their willingness to try new things. For example, aragua is grown in all seasons because it is popular, but if it was to stop selling then there are other things to fall back on.
