Ocracoke Brogue
Overview
Because of its isolation, Ocracoke speech patterns have taken on a unique dialect, or "brogue," and have developed unique expressions over the past 250 years. The Ocracoke Brogue was the subject of a study by Walt Wolfram from the University of North Carolina. The resulting film can be viewed at the Ocracoke Preservation Society.
