Portsmouth Island can be accessed by boat from Ocracoke. Native Captains Rudy and Donald Austin will provide transportation and a bit of history on the ride. Plan on spending the day, exploring an old abandoned village and walking over to the ocean for some great shelling. The entire village is part of the National Register Historic District.
