Love Letter Mural: Home Now
Overview
Love Letter is a project by Stephen Powers with the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and is sponsored by the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through the Philadelphia Exhibitions Initiative. The Mural Arts Program is the largest public art program in the U.S. It was started by the mayor in 1984 to combat the city's graffiti problem. Instead of banning graffiti, the artists were encouraged to redirect their energies into large scale murals around the city. The organization has expanded to include an at-risk youth program, as well as the creation of stipends for recently released inmates. There are now over 3,000 murals in Philadelphia.
