Cope Environmental Center
Overview
A nature center that promotes sustainability through education, demonstration and research.
The Cope centers uses education as a way to get conversations started about ways to live sustainably. Through their interactions with students, families and homeowners they are able to build relationships with the greater Richmond Community that serve to promote human and ecological health and sustainability.
Cope began as a resource for landowners but now serves children, families and students too!
Cope Environmental Center received a grant in 2009 for the equipment to make biodiesel, and have since used the fuel for their vehicles and for educating the public on alternative fuel.
2012 is Cope Environmental Center's 20th Anniversary.
Cope has done two workshops on biodiesal for the public, dubbed "Biodiesel 101." In the workshop people learn how to make biodiesel, its difference from ethanol, etc.
Cope Environmental Center is open to the public from dawn until dusk and the office is open Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm.
