Sara D. Roosevelt Park is another one of the stops our Bikesplorers made on their journey. This is one of Lower East Side’s most popular parks, not to mention, the park is also widely used for community events. An interesting fact that one of our Bikesplorers noted about the park is that on October 24, 2009, New York City’s first ever Dumpling Festival was hosted there by Chef One, a dumpling establishment, to raise funds for the Food Bank for New York City. They even had a dumpling eating contest, too! The park was filled to capacity and the event successfully raised $17,093, which Chef One’s Board decided to match, doubling the total donation to $34,185. Thanks to this event, Food Bank for New York City was able to donate more food to needy New Yorkers that year.
