Manoma, kad ši gatvė “Literatų” buvo įvardyta tik XIX a. pirmojoje pusėje, joje gyvenusio Adomo Mickevičiaus garbei. Literatų gatvės pradžioje gyveno poetas Adomas Mickevičius, tą liudija ir trys lentos ant namo lietuvių, rusų bei lenkų kalbomis.
Nuo 2008 metų grupei menininkų kilo mintis atgaivinti gatvę ir papuošti ją meno kūriniais, susijusiais su literatais. Gatvėje buvo iškilmingai atidengta siena, kurioje dailininkai ir kitų sričių menininkai du metus kūrė metalo, medžio, stiklo ir kitas plokšteles ar objektėlius literatams.

Literatų gatvėje veikia Modernaus meno centras (Literatų g. 8), www.mmcentras.lt.""Literatu street project"" - formaly name of the project.
The wall with mounted artworks - dedications to the literature workers in the Vilnius old town.
(Vilnius is the capital of the Lithuania).
Literatų str. is situated very close to the main street of the Vilnius Old Town Pilies str. and is one of the attractive tourist places.
Artworks mounted on the walls of the Literatu street (Literatų gatvė) dedicated to the literature workers: writers, translators, everyone who has link with Lithuania and is important for lithuanian or world literature.
Various outdoor-proof techniques: ceramics, sculpture, glass, wallpainting.
Project started at 2008 is pure private social initiative: authors donated their works WITHOUT ANY PAYMENT (despite of the crisis time), sponsors donated for renovation of the wall, mounting works.
