Trondheim
Ladehammeren purification plant
Overview
Ladehammeren purification plant cleans sewage from the east side of Trondheim before discharge to the fjord. The process separates methane gas which is combusted in biogas boiler to produce heat. The heat produced is used for cleaning purposes within the plant and excess heat is supplied into Trondheim's district heating system.
The purpose of the biogas boiler in the plant is to collect the potent methane greenhouse gas from the sewage, and utilize the energy produced when this is burned, rather than simply flaring the excess gas as was the practice previously.
