The area extends from a floodplain near Cayuga Lake to the crest of hill in Cayuga Heights. It features scenic ravines, a undisturbed oak forest, rare species, as well as a rich bird fauna.
The area is considered as culturally valuable by local residents (schools, libraries, museum, church).
The site is vulnerable to trampling as terrain is rather steep and subject to erosion. Sticking to the path is important in order to limit adverse effects.
