This big tree grows in the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul West Central Province cemetery adjacent to the University of Missouri - Saint Louis south campus. The sisters of this religious order founded Saint Vincent Hospital and Marillac Seminary - two important St. Louis institutions providing progressive mental health care and women's higher education throughout much of the 20th century. These institutions formed a campus that is now St. Vincent County Park and University of Missouri - St. Louis.
The tree was discovered and measured in 2009 by Pierre Laclede Honors College students during an Urban Ecology course lab.
