In 1981 this site was dedicated as a state archaelogical and geological preserve. It encompasses about 42 acres, with 3 of these containing 32 burial mounds of various dimensions dating to the Late Woodland culture (AD 700-1200). The remainder contains a park with a hiking trail and native bluff-top prairie.
The preserve is located about 2 miles north of Dubuque, and just south of Sageville off Hwy 52. The Dubuque County Conservation Board manages the preserve. Call for more information.
The area is open to the public sunrise to sunset year round.
