Rezumat
Texas-based Spectra Energy wants to build a major natural gas pipeline expansion to New York City
that will run through the heart of Jersey City. This proposal is being facilitated by FERC. Jersey City will bear tremendous risks with no reward, all for the benefit of New York City.
Natural gas pipelines are prone to high risk of leaks that are released as either fine mists of toxic spray or result in fires and explosions that may do significant damage to property and life (re. San Bruno CA, Sept 2010). If the prime-directive is safety, they would not plan to run this pipeline through the densely populated heart of Jersey City along or underneath the Turnpike.
