In a patent dated May 27th, 1640 Gov. Kieft of New Amsterdam granted a large swath of land to a Dutch citizen, Frederick Lubbersten, in the area of Long Island called Merekkawichrigh (now known as Brooklyn). Written into the agreement was: "the express condition that the whenever the Indians shall be willing to part with their maize land" which abutted Lubbersten's grant, he would then "have the privilege of entering upon -- extending from that without his being hindered by anyone" The area indicated general boundaries of what was once Native American Maize Land at the time of Lubbersten's land grant from the Gov. Kieft. This area is now part of Boeurm Hill.
