In 1967, the authorities chopped a large proportion of the south east of Victoria Park to build the Clyde Tunnel approach roads and the Clyde Expressway extension to Scotstoun. This had a number of effects.
- Partially severed the park from the communities to the east (Broomhill, Thornwood). The park was intended to be Partick's green space but from that point it was psychologically in a different area
- Created pollution (noise and fumes) in the park reducing its potential as an oasis of calm
- Blighted the life of residents living along the south of the park
